how much does an engineer make

Depending on your education and experience, you can become a biomedical engineer, medical consultant, research scientist, or professor. Biomedical engineers are more likely to make more than other professions and work for longer periods of time. However, the average biomedical engineer earns about the same salary after ten years. Before starting this career path, there are a few things you should be aware of. The first thing to consider is your salary potential.

GS-6

The average salary for a GS-6 biomedical engineer is $64,288 per annum. In 2018, the average federal rate of tax for this profession was 24%. North Carolina added 5.5% to that total. This would translate into a take-home annual salary of $68,400. That means that each paycheck would be worth roughly $2,850. These figures do NOT include tax rates specific to each metro.

GS-7

A Biomedical Engineer in the federal government can expect to earn up to GS-7. While the salary range will vary depending on experience and job ratings, you could earn more if your work is in Atlanta, GA. Atlanta is a city where you can expect to be paid as much as $61,085 in a single year. But, this is only an estimate of your actual salary. Before you apply, make sure to verify your qualifications.

GS-8

The average GS-8 salary per year for a biomedical engineers is $93,000. This is a very good salary, and it is significantly higher than the GS-6 average. The position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical Engineering, CCE certification, as well as two years of graduate education at progressively higher levels. You must be able to meet the KSAs in order to qualify for a GS-9 job. This includes knowledge about the profession of biomedical engineering, interpretation of codes and making recommendations. The Biomedical Engineering must be able to understand and make ethical and practical recommendations.

GS-9

If you are a biomedical engineer, you're in good company. The average salary for this job is $89,000 per year. However, the salary ranges widely, with some paying more than $150,000 a year. It is important to remember that salary ranges depend on your level of experience as well as where you live. Below are some cities where you can earn more as a Biomedical Engineer.

GS-12

The average salary of a biomedical engineers in GS-12 is $56,345 a calendar year. This job has a full performance level of GS-12. However, the actual grade can be lower or higher depending upon the applicant's experience. Biomedical engineers work for the federal government. Their average pay depends on job classifications and experience. These are important factors that determine the salary of biomedical professionals.

GS-13

On average, a biomedical engineer earns GS-13 annually. Biomedical engineers in the government are classified under the General Schedule (GS), payscale. The minimum salary grade is GS-6. The highest paygrade, GS-15, is the highest. The maximum annual starting and maximum pay are base salaries. However, actual pay will depend upon Locality Pay Adjustment.

GS-14

The average GS-14 biomedical engineer salary depends on the job category and level of experience. This occupation requires decision-making and managing multiple responsibilities. The average annual salary for biomedical engineers is between $56,000 to $130,000. Many times, they manage a team of engineers or other staff members. Technology advances are expected to drive the biomedical engineering industry up 23 percent in the coming decade.

GS-15

GS-15 is a pay scale for government positions for biomedical scientists. This ranges in pay from GS-6 to GS-15. This is the base salary and does not include Locality Pay Adjustment or other bonuses. In some states, biomedical engineer may earn more than others. Salary ranges are usually the same for different positions in the same job. Although the salary for a Biomedical Engineering may differ from one state to another, it is important that you check the pay range in your area before you apply.

GS-16

The average GS-16 wage for biomedical engineering is between $107,000 - $146,000. While this is a good wage, it's not the best. There are other factors that affect pay, such as the location of an employee's office and experience. However, there are certain benefits that biomedical engineers can enjoy, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and more. Below are the top benefits this job title can offer.

FAQ

What does a civil engineer do?

Civil engineering deals with the construction and design of large-scale structures, such as bridges, roads, buildings, dams and tunnels. It includes all aspects of structural engineering including foundations, geotechnics and hydraulics as well as soils, safety analysis, traffic management, environmental impact assessment, and safety analysis. Civil engineers ensure that your project is both cost-effective, and environmentally responsible. They must ensure that the structure is safe and durable.

They may also be involved in the planning and implementation of public works programs. They might supervise the construction and planning of roads, bridges, or tunnels.

Engineering: What does it mean?

Engineering, in short, is the application scientific principles to make useful things. Engineers apply their scientific and mathematical knowledge to create machines, vehicles, buildings and bridges, as well as aircraft, spacecraft and robots.

Engineers could be involved in research and design, production, maintenance or testing, quality control and sales, marketing, management and teaching.

A variety of responsibilities are available to an engineer, such as designing and building products, processes, and systems; managing projects; performing tests, inspections; analysing data; creating models; writing specifications and standards; supervising employees; and making decisions.

Engineers can be specialists in many areas such as mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil, computer, biomedical and manufacturing.

Some engineers prefer to specialize in a particular type of engineering.

What is an Aerospace Engineer?

Aerospace engineers draw on their expertise in aeronautics as well as propulsion, robotics and flight dynamics when designing aircraft, spacecrafts satellites, rockets, missiles, and other spacecraft.

A space engineer could be involved in the design of new aircraft types, fuel sources, improving existing engines or creating space suits.

What are the jobs I can get as an engineer?

Engineers can find employment in almost every industry, including manufacturing, transportation, energy, communications, healthcare, finance, government, education, and defense.

Engineers with specializations in particular areas can often find work at companies or organizations that specialize.

You might find electrical engineers working for medical device manufacturers or telecommunications companies.

Software developers may work for websites or mobile app developers.

Computer programmers may work for tech firms like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, or IBM.

What does a Chemical Engineer Do?

To develop chemicals, products, technologies, or processes, chemical engineers must combine math, science and engineering.

Chemical engineers can specialize in areas such as petroleum refining, pharmaceuticals, food processing, agriculture, textiles, plastics, paper, mining, metallurgy, and power generation.

They work closely together with scientists and other researchers to solve technical difficulties.

Is engineering a good career?

Engineering is an exciting profession where you are constantly learning and improving yourself. There are many opportunities to make an impact in people's daily lives. There are many ways you can do this.

You can design products such cars, planes trains, airplanes, computers, and phones. Or you might develop software for use on these devices or help build them. You might also be interested in creating medical equipment and machinery. There are many options!

Engineers enjoy working alongside others to solve problems and find solutions. They are always looking for new challenges and opportunities to learn.

Engineering is a great career choice. But it requires hard work and dedication. You can't just sit around and watch TV all day. To get the desired results you'll have to put in a lot. But the rewards are worth it.

How To

How to Use an Engineering Ruler

Engineers use engineering rulers to measure distances. Engineers have been measuring distances since ancient times. The 3000 BC mark was the date that the first measuring device was created.

We still use rulers in the modern age, but their usage has changed. The most common ruler in modern times is the metric one. These rulers are marked off in millimeters (1 mm 0.039 inches). Metric rulers can be rectangular or oval in shape. Some rulers also include centimeters, millimeters, and graduations. For example, 1 cm equals 2.54 mm.

You won't find engineers today using a traditional manual ruler. They would use the digital version which measures in millimeters. It works much like a regular digital scale, except it has markings corresponding to various length units. You can read more about them here.
